I light a candle for #MyCanada today. Canada is now a police state. Police moved with force on peaceful protesters because our Prime Minister declared war on my fellow Canadians, peaceful protesters who have a constitutional right to be in Ottawa.
Lawsuits have of course been filed against the government’s illegal actions because the breach of process and law by our own officials is astounding. But right now the lives of these brave truckers are being crushed, people who drove thousands of miles to bring an end to the 2-week lockdown to “flatten the curve” that has now extended for years and broken families and bank accounts and businesses and the spirits of children.
People are suffering and for no good reason. Vax’d or unvax’d, we’re all at equal risk of getting Covid. It’s time to move on and the truckers know it.
Last week, the Ottawa Police warned the protesters that they were working with Children’s Aid, a not-so-subtle threat that they could be positioning to seize the truckers’ kids. Our state-funded media, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) went from truck to truck to truck to look for children. I suspect they then reported back to the police which trucks had children.
Ottawa then warned the truckers — many of whom travel across this big, wide country of ours with companion dogs — that their dogs will be seized and placed into “protective care” for 8 days. After 8 days, their dogs will be “considered relinquished” and made available for adoption.
Here’s one lovely dog I met in Ottawa last weekend, peacefully hanging out with his owner on Parliament Hill. It breaks my heart to think that as a result of the trucker exercising his constitutional rights in Canada, this man’s dog could be seized. These truckers came from thousands of miles away - how can they “make arrangements” to have someone care for their dogs while they are in jail?
Well I, for one, will be offering to take care of 5 dogs until their owners are freed (and I will drive the 300 miles and back just to get them).
Without ever speaking to a trucker, Justin Trudeau (the PM) invoked the Emergency Measures Act. It is a law never before used and designed to deal with threats of war and extreme violence. It was not designed to traumatise and assault peaceful protesters and seize their children and dogs. Nor was it designed to invoke a retroactive punishment to freeze the bank accounts of anyone who dared donate $25.00 or more to the FreedomConvoy.
The woman who arranged the fundraising account on GiveSendGo, Tamara Lich, was arrested yesterday. I’m still trying to find out what the charges are, but I will say that if you watch this video, you’ll be hard pressed to think she is a violent threat to the Canadian government. At one of Tamara Lich’s earlier press conferences, Brian Peckford, the last living person who was involved in the writing of Canada’s constitution joined her. He whole-heartedly supports the truckers’ demands. Why? Because the Prime Minister and Premiers of the provinces have been breaking the law with vaccine mandates.
Please join me and light a candle for Canada.
It is now a police state. The police put 100 checkpoints up in and around Ottawa. Today, not only did the police terrorize and arrest the protesters singing Canada’s national anthem, they sought out anyone flying our flag. In this tweet, you can see multiple police and police vehicles surrounding a car because the man had dared to fly Canadian flags. I heard this happened more than once today. I saw a video where a police offer kneed a protester while he was on the ground and incidents of windows of the protesters’ vehicles being smashed.
It shocks me to the bone that the Prime Minister of Canada declared war my fellow Canadians - sending in snipers and hundreds of armed police for no good reason except he doesn’t like them. These men and women drove thousands of miles to the capital of our country to send him a message that it was time to end the vaccine mandates — and we all know we’re done with the ridiculous rules that have been proven not to work.
When the truckers made it to Ottawa — cheered on by tens of thousands of Canadians — The Economist, reported he greeted them as follows:
First, he refused to meet them. Then, seizing on the fact that a few of the protesters appear to be bigots, he attempted to put all of them outside the boundaries of reasonable debate by condemning “the anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, anti-Black racism, homophobia, and transphobia that we’ve seen on display in Ottawa over the past number of days”. [emphasis added]
Actually, Trudeau, they’re citizens of the country you’re supposed to be leading. And whether you understand it or not, THE TRUCKERS WON.
In my next post, I’ll tell you how and why and cheer them on. But first, I have to find out how I can help with looking after some of their dogs.
I’d offer to look after some of their children, too, but the Children’s Aid Society has a notoriously secretive process and I already know I won’t be able to help there. But I will help in any way I can.
As horrible as today was, let me please leave you with a positive thought: The Truckers Already Won. So proud of them.
Well said.My heart is heavy today.
It hurt my heart, and I wept to see men and women standing in front of those masked soldiers in green whose hard eyes darted back and forth across the crowd, watching normal, everyday men and women saying, over and over 'we love you guys. We are fighting for you. We are sorry you have to make this choice. Please, we are fighting for you, for your rights, for your children's rights, for your grandparents and parents. We love you. We love you. We will never hurt you, we will never raise a finger towards you. We will take anyone away who tries to hurt or push you. We love you. We love you, ' in a constant stream.
Watching a video where mounted police urged their horses into the crowd, trampling two people, my heard dropped.
The world has the opportunity to see what is happening here...if they will only pick up the EDGE of the narrative, and peek beyond it. This is something I've never seen in my lifetime, peaceful, non-violent, dignified, courageous protest. The truckers have won. They have showed the world what is possible, and what standing up to tyranny looks like, in real time. May we all use that knowledge with courage and take up the standard.
